How is
my TRIAK be delivered?
We work with you and our various logistics vendors to get your TRIAK either to your door or as close to you as possible, depending on your location. Currently, individual orders are shipped factory direct packed securely in a wooden crate. The crate dims are approximately: 226 in. x 24 in. x 24 in.
and weighs 300 pounds (5.7 m x 0.6 m x 0.6 m and 140 kg). All shipment terms are DDU minus taxes and duties - you are responsible for the duties and any taxes on import for your country. The final delivery address must be able to accommodate a potentially large truck (tractor-trailer/moving truck type) and will need two people for unloading. Optionally, we can ship to our shipper's nearest facility and un-crate the boat for you. This is nice because you simply pick up the wrapped product and do not deal with discarding the crate and packing materials. For more information please call us toll free in North America at 866-858-7425 or +1 619-240-5042.

How well does the
TRIAK sail upwind and how high can it point?
On average, the TRIAK points about thirty degrees off the
wind and can point better in flat water and optimum wind conditions. Overall
performance up wind is smooth and fast with average speeds of 4-7 knots.
What
is the fastest the TRIAK has been clocked at sailing?
TRIAKs have been clocked over 15 knots many times with GPS. Ideal conditions are 15-17
knots of steady breeze on relatively flat water (bay or lake) with the
spinnaker flying. A WHOLE LOT of FUN!
How long does it take setup the TRIAK?
Depending on how close you are to the water it
typically takes about 20 minutes to casually unload and assemble a TRIAK. Six
(6) hand bolts fasten the wing and floats (4 on wing, 1 each on floats). There
are no tools or cumbersome rigging. Stepping the mast and setting up the lines
takes only a few minutes and you’re ready to go.
Will
I get wet in my TRIAK?
TRIAKing IS a water sport! But the TRIAK is an
amazingly dry craft considering how close you are to the water. The shoe-horn deck-hull join deflects water that would otherwise
roll up into your lap. The sheer design of the bow also deflects water. There
is NO comparison to a sit-on-top design. With the stability of the boat, and
the optional spray-skirt for colder climates, you may TRIAK all day in comfort
and relative dryness.
How much gear can you hold? What is
the maximum capacity of the boat (gear and person)
The TRIAK is rated at 450 lbs. [200 kg] capacity; person and cargo. The fore and aft dry compartments are
capable of storing adequate camping gear and provisions for long,
self-sustained voyages. More gear can be strapped to the top of the aft hatch
and wing area.
Does
loading the boat with expedition gear compromise the performance of the
TRIAK?
Surprisingly no. A laden TRIAK is extremely
stable and sails well with the weight located at the center of the hull thus
reducing much of the heel. The narrow, efficient hull and floats glide through
the water the TRIAK still paddles relatively easy, even with a total of 450 lbs. [ 200 kg ] of weight (gear and person).
What's
the heaviest, largest person you've had in the TRIAK?
About 6’5” and 300 lbs.+. Although the main hull is narrow, the raised seat and open cockpit are
extremely comfortable and fit a range of body types and sizes. Most of your
torso, thighs and knees are open and not stuffed in the hull like a kayak. The
limiting factor is the height of the person – 6’5”-6’6” is max out due
to the length of the cockpit. Weight and size is not really a factor.

Big guy in pre-2010 TRIAK on Lake Washington and loving it!
Is the TRIAK stable
in open waters (3' wind waves) off shore?
Yes, the TRIAK is a stable and safe craft offshore. The vessel
is in class “C” for CE certification to handle wind force up to,
and including, 6 (Beaufort scale) and significant wave height of up to,
and including, 2 meters.
Of course, safety and weather conditions must be monitored
and considered for the size and type of this craft. The circumnavigation of
Vancouver Island (BC, Canada) and the expedition of the length of Baja
Peninsula in Mexico are testaments to TRIAK’s open water prowess.
How
easy is it to capsize a TRIAK?
While paddling, the TRIAK is nearly impossible
to capsize. Under sail, especially in a good breeze with the spinnaker flying,
it is possible to capsize, however, the boat goes over very slowly and you have
plenty of time to sheet out and recover before being dumped. The wing will start
to burry giving adequate warning for you to release pressure in the
sails, heal your body to windward, and level the boat out.
How
easy is the TRIAK to right once capsized?
If you do capsize, the boat is easily righted.
Lean on one of the floats and pull the hull over by the wing. The boomless
mainsail does not provide resistance like a stayed-rig or windsurfer so it
rights smoothly and easily.
Can 2 people go in the TRIAK?
Currently the TRIAK is a one-person craft. We
hope to have a two person version in the future, but
nothing is definite. If you would like to be kept informed of the development of this model please complete the info request form.
